Cozy in Connecticut

This Noroton Harbor home in Connecticut featured in the fall issue of New England Home was designed by Nancé J. Vigneau and photographed by Laura Moss. The bedroom is so cozy and serene...I want to snuggle up in that bed and stare off at the pretty blue ceiling! The dining room is beautiful too, love those star light fixtures! Ashlee Raubach & Caitlin Wilson

More orange and turquoise goodness today compliments of the incredibly talented (and super sweet) photographer Ashlee Raubach. Over the course of the year she's become one of my absolute favorite photographers. (Just follow her blog, and see my posts here and here and you'll immediately see why!) I was so excited to her photos of this fresh and vibrant space by interior designer Caitlin Wilson. She really captures the beauty in the details, don't you think?? The mix of colors and patterns is fantastic here...the Celerie Kemble fabrics make my heart ache! Caitlin also has a blog called Caitlin Wilson Design: Style Files just loaded with great info and beautiful eye candy. Trust me, we need to following these talented ladies!

Michael Robinson

Holy smokes, how spectacular is this kitchen?! So beautifully photographed by Michael Robinson and designed by Andy Villasana for The Lawrence Group out of St. Louis, I spotted it on Desire to Inspire when Kim was featuring the photographer. I'm just dying over the lighting in the 2nd image. Of course the tile is breathtaking, and oh my gosh that arch. You just don't see this stuff in real life! Thank heavens for the internet!

Turquoise & Orange with Tobi Fairley

Gosh you guys, thank you all so much for the kind birthday wishes!! Your comments just made my day. I had a great weekend celebrating, and still have more left to do this week! I love stretching out my birthday! :)

When I first saw these rooms designed by the always-inspiring Tobi Fairley in Traditional Home, it felt nothing short of a fabulous early birthday gift. Photographed by Nancy Nolan, this bedroom and sunroom were part of an eco-friendly charity showhouse in Arkansas. While Tobi has never been shy to pair turquoise with orange, I'm just loving how vibrant and cheery it is here. It's awesome to know she used a mix of new and recycled furnishings (behold the magic of low-VOC paints!) and organic fabrics. I've been drooling over that aqua Rubie Green fabric forever, it's just perfect here on the sofa and draperies! To read all about the rooms, head over here!

All Ireland Scarecrow Championship, Durrow, Co. Laois.

Back during the August bank holiday weekend, we arranged to visit some old friends near in County Waterford. Heading down the motorway, our GPS tells us to turn off the motorway prematurely, but as I was unfamiliar with the area we were going to I did what I was told and left the motorway. By doing this, we were taken through the recently bypassed town of Durrow. But this was not the same Durrow I remembered form the times before the bypass where it was constantly chocked up with traffic, this time it was teeming with festive fun.

Unaware what was going on when entering the town, we spotted a funny looking fellow propped up by the road, who turned out to be a scarecrow, this seemed to be a little odd place for a scarecrow, but ‘hay’ whatever! Then there was another one! Now it was getting a little weird. It was only as we passed a picnic table of scarecrows dining and drinking pints so stout, that we knew something was going on.

'Walking the Owner is a Woof Job' by Adrian Sheppard Winner of Best Overall Scarecrow and Best Street Residence Scarecrow.

This was, as we later discovered the All Ireland Scarecrow Championship, part of Durrow’s annual ‘Howya’ Festival.
With over one hundred and fifty entries there was a lot to see. For those who wish to see the scarecrows in style, there was a Jarvey tour of the scarecrows where adults and children were taken on a tour of the highways and byways of the village on one of the beautifully presented horse and carriage rigs.

Unfortunately for us we did not have time to stop and have a good look around, as we were already running late, so all we could manage is a slow drive through the village, but thanks to Andy Walsh for letting me use some of his photos for this post to give you a taste of what it was like. Here are a few of my favourite entries.

White Lady Rescue' by The Durrow Fire & Rescue Service. Winner of Best Business/Club/ Organisation.

'Status Crow' by Michael Smith, Winner of Best Visiting Scarecrow.

'Lord & Lady Ashbrook' by Kay Downey

'CSI Crow Scene Investigation' by Joe Murphy, John Lappin, Robert Freeman & Thomas McCann, some of the winners of Best Youth/Student Scarecrow (under 16)

So be sure to add this to your list of events for next year, it runs every August bank holiday weekend. If you wish to enter next years competition, you can download a entry form from Durrow’s website http://www.durrowvillage.com/.

There are also lots more photos by Andy Walsh of the festival to see on his photo album http://s801.photobucket.com/albums/yy291/JonathanWalsh/Scarecrows/

Interestingly as we left Durrow our GPS sent us back onto the motorway to continue our trip to County Waterford, this is the first time ever I wasn’t giving out to the GPS for taking us on one of its bizarre detours.

30! (and a winner & some favorites!)

So today's the big day....my 30th birthday! I thought I'd share with you guys one of the rooms that inspired me to start this blog three years ago. I had seen this home while stalking Apartment Therapy's Fall Colors contest, and back then I'd never seen anything like it! One day when I wanted to go look at it again, it took me forever to find it. That's when I realized maybe I should start a blog to collect fabulous rooms, make them easier to find, and seriously, imagine the thrill of seeing turquoise room after turquoise room! Never in a million years did I think I'd have so many readers, meet so many people who love turquoise as much as I do. Thank you all so much for your comments every day, for inspiring me with your rooms and projects, and for sharing all of your amazing blogs with me. 30 is going to be the best year yet, and so much of that is because of you!

And with that, time to announce the winner of my giveaway! *Drumroll please!*

Lucky girl! So now I'm turning off the computer and going to celebrate the rest of the day. In fact, I think I'll take tomorrow off too. (It's actually C's and my anniversary!!) So I'll see guys back here on Monday! I'll leave you with some more all-time favorite photos from Carla Ten Eyck Photography that I discovered on mimi and meg a year ago. I love them as much now as I did then! Ooh la la!
